A written prescription describes an eye. It does not describe how a lens will sit on this face, in this frame, at the angle you actually wear it. Two people can leave the same exam with the same numbers and need two different lenses.
Free-form digital surfacing closes that gap. Rather than grinding a stock curve and hoping it suits, the lens is calculated and cut point by point for the wearer — the full prescription compensated for the frame chosen, the lens design selected, and the fit ratio measured on the face: how the frame tilts, how it wraps, how far it sits from the eye.
The correction that reaches the eye is the correction that was intended. That difference shows up where vision is actually used — a menu in low light, a road at dusk, a long day between a screen and a room.
The full prescription is recalculated for the frame and lens you have actually chosen, not for an average one.
